Terri, great to hear your story. Didn’t realize you were in DaNang for a year. It was my favorite place – I would have gladly been there for a year. I was there with you from Sept ‘70 to March ‘71.

Sheila was the girl transferred from Cu Chi – I saw her this last spring for the first time since 1971 – it was a great reunion.
I also met with Sara this summer and have seen Julie in the last year.

I returned to Vietnam 4 years ago and went back to DaNang. I was amazed at all the bridges, 5* resorts, and new buildings. Population was 50,000 when we
    were there and now 500,000.

Consider coming to the ARCOA next June in New Orleans.

    Hey Terri!
Nice to see your post. I remember those days well! We laughed a lot in Danang and cried a little, too!

    Ellen and Sara,

So good to hear from you both. I will look up ARCOA in New Orleans for June now that I am retired.

It is wonderful to have Jim capture this for us and place it in one location on the internet.

Hi, Terry, this is one of the most interesting accounts of our time in Vietnam. I was there from Sept 70-Sept-71. While we never met, I can relate to a lot of the stories. I’ve been lucky enough to attend a few of the Donut Dollie Reunions and ARCOA convention and I am hoping to get to New Orleans. I need to pull my finger out and write my story. My experience coming down to Australia after Vietnam has been so different to many of the girl’s homecoming. I just never went home! In finishing, I would have loved to have met your mother. I so admire those women for what they did during WWII.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I served in Cam Rahn Bay for my first assignment July 1970 but don’t recall you in our short overlap of time, but I fondly remember China Beach, and your other mentioned places. It is wonderful that you were able to return to Vietnam Nam.

  9. Thank you for your service to our troops, Terry. I have fond memories of the Donut Dollies who used to visit our tiny, specialized medical unit in Bien Hoa. You have the gratitude of the troops, and I’m hoping this series helps gain the gratitude of Americans at large – many of whom have no idea you existed.

      Gerry,
Thank you so much. I am always somewhat humbled when I hear comments such as yours. We were there for you. I visited Bien Hoa once on TDY. Yes, you are correct in that it will be nice to have this documentary to serve as a record of what we did. Arrowhead Films did a nice documentary on us a few years back called “a Touch of Home”, but this is the first time so much info has been gathered and placed in one location. I am very appreciative of that.

    I love you Terry Harmon.
Those guys on the volleyball court with me were mostly ARVN South Vietnamese MI Army officers I served with.
May God bless you for your service and all the joy you brought to all the troops you met in Vietnam. We may have been not respected, but we were the best of America. Chu Hoi.

      Bill,
For sure. Thanks for your comment and your service. Now I know why your head was so much higher than the others on the volleyball court.

    Joyce,
I find it very hard to find current info on the conference. I made a hotel reservation at the Springhill Suites based on an email I got that said the hotel had changed. I am wondering if a general agenda has been published. I don’t see anything on the arcoa.org website. Do you have a link to any more conference details other than the hotel? Thanks. Terry

Thanks for your service to us during our commitment to our country. I used to feel slighted by our contrasting reasons for being in VN. I couldn’t come to grips with the fact that you and so many other GIs had a nice safe tour in country while we had to face the real horrors of being on the action end of the war. Now that I’m older, I have found a way to appreciate your willingness to be there. Again I thank you and all of your colleagues for being there for us and with us.
